Graduation Nation...

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to capture a very special and unique event...the graduation ceremony for the first ever class of graduates from the Pathways to Education program in Kitchener!!

For those unfamiliar...

"Pathways to Education Canada is a charitable organization that helps youth in low-income communities graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education or training. Pathways removes systemic barriers to education by providing leadership, expertise and a community-based program proven to lower dropout rates. Today, Pathways operates in eleven communities across Canada with programs in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Manitoba."

Pathways in Kitchener is run out of Mosaic Counselling + Family Services.

What a fantastic ceremony!! Knowing not much about the program myself, I left the Kitchener City Hall with a new understanding of the program, a new appreciation of the staff and volunteers that run it and above all, a feeling of pride in 40 kids that I didn't even know! It was seriously like watching my own kid walk across the stage and get their diploma...40 times! I don't think there was a person in the crowd that wasn't proud of each and every one of those kids!

Hats off to the organizers of the evening! It was awesome and I am honoured to have been asked to capture such a special occasion!
